Solaris Bus & Coach and Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG, the public transport operator in Dortmund, have signed a contract for a purchase of 30 Urbino 18 electric buses. These will be the first Solaris electric buses in the fleet of the city. Previously, Dortmund bought 13 Solaris buses with traditional combustion engines.
The electric Solaris buses that will power the Dortmund fleet will be distinguished by innovative solutions. The carrier made sure that the equipment guaranteed the highest degree of comfort and safety. The MobilEye Shield + driver support system will eliminate the problem of the so-called blind spot. The solution detects pedestrians and cyclists in the vicinity of the vehicle. This is especially important when turning when visibility may be restricted.
The German market is the second largest for Solaris when it comes to registered electric buses, and in 2021 the largest number of e-buses in Europe went to the streets there. Solaris, as a leading manufacturer of emission-free solutions in public transport, has made a significant contribution to this. More than 250 Urbino electrics that run in German cities today account for more than 20% of the market, and Solaris continues to win more contracts in Germany.
